Thanks to the latest progresses in the field of medicine the number of children and teenagers surviving chronical kidney diseases has increased. However, the lack of organs available makes them undergo substitutive kidney treatments. Among them haemo dicalysis (HD) is outstanding (65% of the cases aprox.). HD despite providing an initial physical
improvement, bas physical and psychological limitations.
This piece of research is a synthesis of the work "Master in children and young adults psychiatrics" of Hospital Universitario Vall d'Hebron, Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. Two experimental groups of 25 teenagers, consisting each one of patients suffering from renal failure (RCI), are set up and compared. One of the groups undergoes a baemo-dialysis treatment (named HD) and the other not (HR). The aim is studying whether adolescents whit HD could be more vulnerable and could have more psycopathological and social disorders than those who suffer from the same disease but not receive this treatment. Likewise a third control group was used. Clinical bistory-Falcó-, semi-structured interviews (protocol) and psychological valuation were performed intelligence, anxiety, depression features and attention.
The results show a more significant presence of psycopathological disorders in teenagers with HD, being this treatment susceptible of increasing the difficulties in the patient's psychological and psyco social development.
